All information about Optometrist

Opticians & optometrists are intimately associated with each other

The role of opticians cannot be overlooked just because they are all about selling and fitting eyewear & eyeglasses to the people who have been advised by their optometrist to buy and the use them. An optometrist writes prescriptions that are then also used by opticians.

Even though opticians are not considered to be an integral part of the eye care team, but they are really, really important when you need to buy eyeglasses and have them fitted on your eyes apart from fact that opticians are not eye doctors whether they are licensed in some states or they are working without a legal license in other states where it is not mandatory for them.

The training and education of opticians, optometrists & ophthalmologist

It is important to mention that the training and the qualification of an oral surgeon are not different from the training and education of an ophthalmologist, and when talking about the practice, an ophthalmologist can perform eye surgery like an oral or general surgeon but an optometrist can treat through medicines similar to a general physician. This is the best example to differentiate an optometrist and an ophthalmologist. Similarly, the training and qualification of a general dentist are similar to that of an optometrist.

An ophthalmologist has to spend their student days by keeping their residency at the hospital’s hostel for three years aside from a one-year internship, & a four-year medical school. In this way, you need to spend around 12 years to become an ophthalmologist, and for sure, that’s a big deal, not a joke.

Closing words

Even though people mostly visit an optometrist whenever they are in the need for prescriptions for contact lenses or eyeglasses because of their weak eyesight, an ophthalmologist also writes prescriptions for eye accessories. An ophthalmologist gets the training and education to perform eye surgery, write medicinal prescriptions, treat eye problems, diagnose eye disease, and carry out eye checkups.
